Event Details

Librarian Jane Kinney Meyers believes in the power of libraries to change lives and enrich communities and put this belief into action when she founded Lubuto Library Partners in 2005.  LLP is an innovative, not-for-profit organization that builds the capacity of African libraries to create educational opportunities and reduce poverty.  Lubuto constructs libraries in sub-Sahara Africa whose design is inspired by local culture and which offer comprehensive collections of books and technology resources.  Ms. Meyers will share the story of Lubuto‚Äôs founding and ongoing work in Africa on October 18th at 7:00 p.m.  Join us for an enlightening and inspiring evening and learn more about these amazing libraries that serve as safe havens for vulnerable children and are centres of dynamic library programming.

Someone once said that the role of a public library is to be whatever the community needs it to be. Although this means that libraries may look different as they serve their own neighbourhoods, it can also highlight how similar communities are, even when separated by continents. Join us as we welcome Jane Kinney Meyers and learn about the fabulous work Lubuto Library Partners is doing Sub-Saharan Africa. Light refreshments provided.
